Jakarta  (ANTARA News) - Malaysian police last Wednesday (Aug 11) arrested an Indonesian national for suspected involvement in terror activities.

"It is true that Mustawan Ahbab (34) and two other Malaysians, namely Samsul Hamidi (34) and Sheikh Abdullah Sheikh Junaid (70), are detained under the Internal Security Act," Minister Counselor for Socio-cultural Affairs Widyarka Ryananta said here on Wednesday night.

Widyarka added the police was still investigating the three men following the arrest of Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Baasyir by Indonesian police last Monday (August 9).

"Until now, Malaysian police have not made an official statement on the matter.

Everything is still under police`s investigation," he said.

ISA is a preventive detention law in force in Malaysia. The legislation was enacted after Malaysia gained independence from Britain in 1957. ISA allows for detention without trial or criminal charges under limited, legally defined circumstances.

According to information from Malaysian Chief of Police, Musa Hassan, the arrested Indonesian national Mustawan Ahbab worked as a sales executive with a private company in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, head of public relations division of the National Police Headquarters, Inspector General Edward Aritonang, said police were still looking for complete data on Mustawan Ahbab.

"We still do not receive information on the arrest from the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur," he said.

On Monday (August 9), Indonesian Police arrested Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Baasyir for allegedly knowing, supporting and receiving reports about preparations for terrorist attacks.

Police said Abu Bakar Baasyir was believed to have received reports routinely about terrorist plans for bombing attacks in Indonesia.

"After some cross-checking, we learned that one of those wanted by the police was Abu Bakar Baasyir," the head of public relations division of the National Police Headquarters, Inspector General Edward Aritonang, said here on Monday.

Edward said the National Police`s Special Anti-Terror Unit Densus 88 had discovered links between terrorist training in Aceh Besar, bombing plots in Indonesia and a bomb-making laboratory in Cibiru, Bandung, West Java.

He said Baasyir played an active role in the planning of terrorist training in Aceh and making Aceh the base of Qaidah Aminah.

Baasyir had also appointed Ustads (Religious Teachers) Mustakim and Abu Thalib as managers of the training camp and the late Dulmatin as field leader.

"He knew about the plan in Aceh as he received reports routinely about the activity from the field leader," he said.

Densus 88 arrested Baasyir along with five of his guards in Banjar, Ciamis, West Java, at around 8.15 am on Monday.
