WHO ambassador visits Palembang Leprosy Hospital

Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - WHO Goodwill Ambassador for the Elimination of Leprosy Yohei Sasakasa visited Palembang`s Dr Rivai Abdullah Leprosy Hospital to observe the hospital`s services for lepers.
"The hospital has provided good services," Sasakawa, who is chairman of the Nippon Foundation, said here on Tuesday.
He said that he had met with South Sumatra governor and had the impression that the governor had the intention to maximize efforts to free the province from leprosy.
Sasakawa said that his foundation through the World Health Organization (WHO) provided assistance in the form of leprosy medication.
He said that the medication was provided for free and Indonesia had received a lot of medicines.
Dr Rivai Abdullah Leprosy Hospital Director dr Heriyadi Manan said meanwhile that his hospital was providing treatment for 40 lepers.
