Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Police (Polri) is on guard against possible acts of terrorism during this year`s Eid Firt holiday, locally known as Lebaran.

"We will increase vigilance against possible acts of terrorism, perpetrated by certain group of people during Lebaran holiday," Polri headquarter general supervision inspector Commissioner General Nanan Sukarna said here on Thursday.

Nanan made the statement when acted as inspector of ceremony of Ketupat Operation 2010 show of force at Metro Jaya Police headquarter here on Thursday.

The three-star general said the security personnel as well as the people at large should remain vigilant during Eid Fitr holiday because the act of terrorism could possible happen unexpectedly.

He said the police chief also ordered his personnel to anticipate it and to increase vigilance because a number of wanted terror suspects remained at large in the run up to Lebaran festivity.

Some 16.3 million people are expected to return by public transportation to their hometowns for Eid Fitr holiday this year.

National Police (Polri) Chief Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri has said the home-bound travelers would use at least five million units of motor vehicles.

Bambang also said some 3.6 million of motorbikes would also be used by the holiday travelers.

"About 76 percent of traffic accidents involved motorbike riders," the National Police chief said, declaring eight areas for first class Eid Fitr security namely Lampung, Banten, Metro Jaya, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, and Bali.
