Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on all offices concerned to prevent serious traffic jams on roads during the post-fasting holiday.

During a cabinet meeting here on Thursday he called for the handling of problems that potentially could cause traffic jams.

A lot of people in the country would travel to their home towns or villages to commemorate the post-fasting holiday with their families.

"Focus should be put on assuring smooth traffic flows," he said.

Besides roadside markets the President also called for the handling of other problems that might hinder traffic flows.

"We have heard a lot from radio or television broadcasts of public complaints about traffic conditions which have indeed been very crowded. The roads remains while the number of cars is increasing. Other problems are about bottlenecks like in Nagrek (West Java) where it could take hours for vihicles to pass it," he said.

President Yudhoyono meanwhile also called for assuring security and comfort for sea and air travellers including against possible accidents.

"I will inspect some places days before the D-Day, which I would tell later and so be prepared. I do not like to see anyone being caught unprepared. They must all assure the readiness of terminals, routes and posts," he said. (*)
