Berlin (ANTARA News/IRNA) - Germany`s central bank, or Bundesbank, on Thursday voted unanimously in favor of dismissing board member Thilo Sarrazin over his Islamophobic statements.
The Frankfurt-based central bank launched the necessary proceedings during
an afternoon meeting, asking the German president to sack Sarrazin whose present contract runs through 2014.
This is the first time in the history of the Bundesbank it has decided to fire a board member.
In other related news, the President of the European Central Bank Jean-Claude Trichet said he was `appalled` by Sarrazin`s anti-Muslim comments.
Sarrazin`s book `Germany Abolishes Itself: How We Are Risking The Future of Our Nation` which alleges Muslims were a danger to German society, has fuelled furious public protests in the recent days.
