Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Both Busyro Muqodas and Bambang Widjojanto, the two remaining candidates for the post of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief, have strong capability to lead the Attorney General`s Office (AGO), a senior legislator said.

People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Vice Chairman Lukman Hakim said here on Friday President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono need not exert himself to find a replacement for Hendarman Supandji as attorney general as he could just pick the unsuccessful of the two remaining KPK chief candidates (Busyro or Bambang).

He said it would be enough for the president to choose either one of the candidates of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leader who were not selected by the House of Representatives (DPR).

According to Lukman Hakim, Busyro Muqodas and Bambang Widjojanto had gone through a tight selection and that it would be better for them to lead the KPK and AGO in a synergistic manner to combat corruption in the country.

President Yudhoyono on Tuesday officially handed their names as the candidates of KPK leader to the DPR.

But the president said he was not permitted by the law to intervene in the selection process.

"I believe that both of them are the best candidates of the selection committee, and I am sure the DPR will appropriately choose one of them," the president said, expressing hope that the KPK could do its task effectively in the corruption eradication effort.

The president on Friday, August 27, received two names who had passed an oral test conducted by the selection committee to lead the KPK.

The two names were handed to the president by the selection committee, led by Law and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar at the presidential office.

When receiving the selection committee, the head of state was accompanied by Vice President Boediono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.

Before reporting it to the president, Patrialis said the selection committee had decided to propose two names who had passed the oral test to the president.
