Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is seeking to increase bilateral economic cooperation with Russia , a big country with A high per capita income.
Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said here on Friday trade with Russia was tending to increase and had reached a value of US$775 million in 2009.
She said this was small and therefore efforts had to be made increase it by increasing government-to-government and business-to-business relations.
She said she had met the Russian economic minister on the sidelines of the ASEAN economic ministers` meeting in Vietnam in August to discuss efforts to increase economic relations between the two countries.
She said the two countries had agreed to form a kind of joint trade and investment commission to develop the bilateral trade potentials and find solutions to problems hindering the cooperation so far.
"Among the problems that we know is lack of information in Indonesia about Russia and the other way round," she said.
She said the government would send a trade delegation to Russia in the middle of this month and private business would also be represented in it.
"We will strengthen the Indonesia-Russia Business Council and the cooperation between Indonesian and Russian chambers of commerce," she said.
Mari said the government would also send a trade delegation to Belarus, a small country that had a close affinity to Russia.
She said she hoped all of the efforts could attract investment from Russia and widen the country`s export market.
