Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will continue to promote micro small and medium businesses to develop into new middle-class businesses, a chief economic minister said.
"We hope that around 10-20 percent of 51.26 million (micro small and medium) businesses will become new middle-class business agents," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said in his opening address to a national coordination meeting of micro, small and medium businesses and cooperatives here on Friday.
He said micro, small and medium businesses needed to be developed to create more jobs and to enable them to become large scale business even though they still could not compete with foreign rivals.
"They are still not enough to promote the nation to compete (in the global market) and that new policies need to be issued," he said.
The policies included providing small and medium businesses with easy access to capital, he said.(*)
