Passengers at Merak port reach over 18 thousands

Merak, Banten (ANTARA News) - The number of passengers crossing the Sunda strait to Sumatra from Merak port on Saturday afternoon was recorded at 18,186 persons and it is expected to increase further by 20 percent until Saturday night.
"The 18,186 are ferry passengers on vehicles and passengers in persons," Forson, an official in charge of recording data on passengers and vehicles at Merak port, said here on Saturday.
He said that the number of passengers at 4 pm Saturday, or six days before the Idul Fitri D-Day, was said to be still normal. "Even up to now, drastic increase in the number of passengers and vehicles is now seen," he said.
Forson said that until 4 pm on Saturday, the number of passengers was recorded at 18,186 who were catered with 29 roll-on roll-off ships.
A total of 773 motorcycles and 3,622 private cars as well as trucks were also recorded to have been ferried on Saturday.
On Friday, the number of both types of passengers (on vehicles and in persons) was recorded at 30,885 with four wheel vehicles recorded at 6,076.
