Mamuju, West Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - A flood triggered by five hours of rains hit a number of areas in Mamuju district, West Sulawesi, on Saturday due to the poor drainage system.

The rains which ended at 08.00 p.m. caused flood at the villages of Simboro, Karema and Binanga, an Antara news contributor observed.

In Simboro the water level reached 30 cm on Saturday night, inundating the road leading to the West Sulawesi provincial administration building.

Some motorists avoided traveling on the flooded road.
"I am afraid of traveling on the road. What is more, several parts of the road leading to the office complex are damaged," Hamsi, Simnoro resident, said.

The flood also inundated several areas in Simboro, including Wahidin Sudirohusodo Street, a market on Almalik Pababri Street and BTN Ampli housing complex.

"The flood water began to enter my house after the rains so I had to remove a number of household utensils," Irwan, a resident of the housing complex, said.

He said poor drainage systems were to blame for the flood.
The flood also inundated a number of houses in Binanga village with many residents also putting the blame on poor drainage systems for the flood.

"The bad spatial layout system is the cause of floods in urban areas. We can see how bad the spatial layout system so all drainage systems are clogged up," said Abdullah who lives on Tuna Street.
