Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from Golkar Party, Yorrys Raweyai, hailed President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s decision to choose Admiral Agus Suhartono as the next Defense Forces commander.

"His decision to choose Admiral Agus Suhartono is right," he said at the parliament building here on Monday.

Yorrys who is a member of House Defense Commission I said as the new TNI commander Agus would be able to improve the country`s maritime strength.

"So far our orientation has been on land while our maritime capability has been ignored. With him being the new TNI commander it is hoped the orientation will change and our martime strength will rise," he said.

To him Agus is fit to become the TNI commander although two other chiefs of staff also have an equal capacity.

"Imagine Agus who is of the `78 Class has been able to achieve four stars which is an extraordinary achievement," he said.

Regarding the fit and proper tests that will be carried out he said the Golkar faction would discuss it internally.

"We will conduct an internal faction meeting with regard to supporting Agus," he said.
A Commission I member from the ruling Democrat Party, Yahya Sacawirya, meanwhile said whoever was chosen by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono the Democrat Party faction would support.

"The Democrat Party faction will support and assure election of Agus as the new TNI commander to replace General Djoko Santoso," he said.

He said the party would also conduct an internal meeting to prepare steps to assure his election.

"We will soon hold an internal meeting to assure his election," he said.

"President Yudhoyono`s choice is certainly unquestionable although I myself do not know Agus`s track records as our classes are far apart," he said.
