Jakarta (ANTARA News) - International delivery service company DHL was helping to transport logistical aid to Islamabad, Pakistan, for flood victims in that country, a company spokesman said.

"Millions of people have been hit by the floods, they especially need food, tents, and clothing," said y Chris Weeks, head of DHL Humanity Division, in a press statement received by ANTARA Newshere on Monday.

Therefore, DHL had prepared basic logistics at the airport to facilitate the aid shipping over the next few weeks.

Earlier, DHL had sent an advance team consisting of four logistic experts from its disaster-response team to Islamabad on August 25.

In cooperation with the Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority, the team operated a storage building and helped in aid logistic matters at Islamabad military airport.

The DHL disaster-response team gave free services and also coordinated with Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and World Food Programme (WFP).

The DHL disaster-response team at Islamabad airport is handling aid from WFP and also from other countries that are sending their aid bilaterally.

In recent days, the DHL team brought around 25 workers from its varios business divisions who worked hand in hand to load and bring the aid for further distribution.

The United Nations (UN) has estimated 800,000 people in Pakistan are still isolated by floodwaters and millions of others have also been affected by the disaster.
