Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is to seek clarification on the budget used by the West Java governor and vice governor to procure more than Rp1 billion worth of Idul Fitri greeting cards, a spokesman said.

"Now the issue is still being studied to see if the cards` procurement was done in line with existing regulations," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said here on Tuesday.

On Monday, the secretary of the West Java provincial administration, Lex Laksanama, came to the KPK office to clarify reports about the procurement of the cards that were bought with Rp1.5 billion from the regional budget.

He said the investigation would also be done to see if the procurement was done according to the provincial government`s budget plan.

What the KPK would also like to know was whether the procurement was done through an open bid or not, based on personal motives or not and where the money used for it came from.

"So we do not know yet what the results will be. We are still studying their explanations," he said.

Asked if KPK would summon Governor Ahmad Heryawan for questioning Johan said he did not know as confirmation still had yet to be made regarding the urther process after the clarification was made by the provincial government`s secretariat.

It was previously reported Governor Ahmad Heryawan and Vice Governor Dede Yusuf had used Rp1.5 billion from he regional budget to procure the cards totaling 350,000 pieces.

According to the West Java administration the cards that depict the pictures of the governor and vice governor were worth Rp2,250 per piece.(*)
