Makassar, S.Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Three Sukhoi jets will soon arrive at the Sultan Hasanuddin aiport in Makassar to raise the airport`s armament system.
Spokesman for the airport said Tuesday the three SU-27SKM jets are scheduled to arrive there on Thursday (Aug.9) this week and Wednesday (Aug.15) next week.
"The Sukhoi are the latest jets the Indonesian Air Force had ordered from Russia since August 2007," he said.
He said the three jets will complete the six Sukhoi ordered by the Indonesian Air Force after Sukhoi SU-30 MK2 jets had already arrived in stages in December 2008 and in January 2009.
Thus, Indonesia has 10 Sukhoi jets replacing A4 Skyhawks.
Mulyadi said the Sukhoi jets were supposed to arrive on Tuesday, but Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Imam Sufaat said their arrival had been delayed because their transport, Antonov AH-124-100, had a problem.
"So, the arrival of the three had been delayed two days," he said.
The six Sukhoi jets were worth 300 million US dollars, the equivalent of 2.85 trillion rupiah.(*)Editor: Aditia Maruli
