Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Bank Mega Tbk, one of the country`s leading banks, extended Rp22 trillion in credits in the year ended August 31, or Rp4.8 trillion away from achieving its credit target of Rp26,8 trillion for this year.
Compared to July, the amount of credits channeled in August represented an increase of Rp365 billion, the bank`s credit director, Daniel Budi Rahayu, said on Wednesday.
Daniel said the 2010 credit target of Rp26.8 trillion rose 28 percent compared to last year.
The increase suggested that customers` demand for credits was growing and the economic growth was moving on its right track, he said.
Bank Mega channeled credits to heavy-duty equipment maker PT United Tractor in the past three months, he said without elaborating on the amount of the credits.
He said a great chunk of credits channeled in the past three months went to the trade sector and heavy-duty equipment industry.
The expected high economic growth in the second semester of 2010 would prompt the banking industry to extend more credits, he said.
Moreover, Bank Indonesia (the central bank/BI) had asked banks to extend more credits to help the country achieve high economic growth, he said.
"We are optimistic that banks will extend more credits due to growing demand from customers," he said.
