Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is seeking to expand its export market in China by making inroads into Chongqin province.

Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said in a press conference here on Wednesday she planned to hold talks with Chongqin Governor Bo Xilai on the sidelines of the World Expo Development Forum to be held in the province on September 10, 201o with regard to the effort.

"Chongqin is in the western part of China which they will develop, and it is now already developing quite fast. The secretary general of the Communist Party in the region is former minister of trade Bo Xilai. We need to make approaches with regard to expanding the coverage of our export goods in China," she said.

She said she and a delegation including members of the China Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Association of China-Indonesia Businessmen would hold a dialogue with the province`s chamber of commerce and industry to expand the country`s China market that has so far covered only Beijing, Guanzhou and Shanghai.

"Chongqin is one of the fast developing provinces in China and therefore we have asked Indonesian businessmen to tap the province`s economic potentials by increasing trade and investment cooperation with the province," she said.

She said not many Indonesian businessmen had developed trade and investment relations with businessmen from the province and in view of that it was important intensive efforts were made to improve the relations in concurrence with the 60 anniversary of the two countries` diplomatic relations.

Minister Mari Pangestu and delegation including government officials concerned would be on a working visit to Chongqin, Shanghai and Tianjin from September 9-14 to among others attend several international activities linked to trade diplomacy.

On September 10, 2010 Mari Pangestu would attend the WEDF held by the International Trade Center in cooperation with the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Chongqin.

In Tianjin, the minister would attend an Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2010 of the World Economic Forum known as Summer Davos from September 12-15.

On the occasion she would present efforts to maintain the Asian economy to remain sustainable and the role of Indonesia in the Group of 20 developed and developing countries. Indonesia will be the hose of the East Asia WEF in June 20111.

The WEF is a forum of stakeholders such as governments, businesses, media, non-governmental organizations and men of arts to for discussing latest issues of world concern.

On September 14, 2010 Minister Mari Pangestu would open the coordination meeting of the international trade cooperation in Shanghai which is to be attended by trade attaches and head of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC).(*)
