President attends national takbir event at Istiqlal

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended a national event in which the participants made repetitions of "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) at the Istiqlal Grand Mosque in Jakarta Thursday night ushering the Idul Fitri festivity.
The President and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono arrived at the Istiqlal Mosque at 8 pm. Vice President Boediono and Madame Herawati also joined the presidential entourage.
The high-ranking government officials and political party figures also attending the event included Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Priyo Budi Santoso,
Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa,
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Minister of Marine and Fisheries Affairs Fadel Muhammad, State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar, Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali, Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, and General Chairman of Golkar Party Aburizal Bakrie.
The event was also attended by at least 15,000 mosque representatives of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek).
The national event bearing the theme "Islam Brings Peace" was preceded by reading phrases of the Koran, followed by an address by the event`s chief organizer Priyo Budi Santoso and Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali.
General Secretary of the event`s organizers Suwito said the occasion also saw the handing over of Rp 200,000 Idul Fitri packages to five thousand orphans and poor people of Jabodetabek area.
The packages came from several state-owned enterprises grouped in the Care for Orphans State Enterprise.(*)Editor: Aditia Maruli
