Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla performed his Idul Fitri prayers at the Karebosi Square together with South Sulawesi regional officials here on Friday.

Kalla, now the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) chairman, at the service sat in the front row of the congregation , flanked by South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo and Makassar Mayor Ilham Arief Sirajuddin.

Also present were South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Police Chief Insp Gen John Wainal Usman, and other officials.

Two days before the Idul Fitry festivity, there was uncertainty as the where the prayer service would be held, whether at Karebosi square or at Al-Markaz Al Islami mosque.

Meanwhile, Qadir Gassing in his Idul Fitri sermon called on Muslims in South Sulawesi to always make what they had also useful for other people.

In the sermon, Qadir also spoke about the nation`s present state of mind which, according to him, had lost sensitivity, assertiveness, concern for others, and moral statesmanship.

The assistant first rector of Alauddin Makassar State Islamic University specifically mentioned the House of Representatives (DPR) which, he said, was insensitive to the plight of the people at large as shown by its plan to build a new block on the House`s premises at a total cost of Rp1.6 trillion.

When the prayer service was over, Kalla left immediately and did not mingle with the congregation because he would held an open house at his private residence on Haji Bau street for the people.(*)
