Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said the names of national police chief candidates to be submitted to the House of Representatives were in principle meant for endorsement , not selection.
In reply to a question over the issue after greeting President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Idul Fitri here on Friday, he said the President would probably submit only one name to the House of Representatives (DPR).
Sudi said "according to the law `named upon DPR approval` means the President submits a name for approval not selection. It is submitted for approval and disapproval."
He said President Yudhoyono had so far submitted no name yet to the DPR.
The President had said before that he would only submit the name after the Idul Fitri holiday.
The track records of a candidate will be scrutinized by the Corruption Eradication Commission, the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting, the National Commission on Human Rights and the Directorate General of Taxation to assure a right person.
President Yudhoyono has expressed hope that the inauguration of the new national police chief could be done together with the inauguration of the new attorney general that would replace Hendarman Supandji who is also to retire soon.
