Indonesian red cross sends hygiene kits to Merapi victims

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) had once again sent medical supplies and equipment to the Mt Merapi evacuees including sanitation equipment for use in the shelters, a spokesman said.
Logistics Coordinator of PMI Sleman district Murtiyono said here Sunday that the aid would not only help the evacuees and the hygiene kits provided by the Indonesian Red Cross are ready for distribution on Sunday to the evacuees at the Indonesia Islam University (UII) post.
He said that each family of the evacuees will be given packs each containing five body soaps, a kilogram of detergent, shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrushes, towels, 50 pieces of women bandages, and five packs of tissues.
The aid included 51 packs of hygiene kits and 53 blankets, and 14 volunteers are involved in their distribution.
There are nine barracks for the evacuees, two in Wukirsari and seven for the UII post.
Meanwhile, the Emergency Response Team of Water and Sanitation of the PMI in Turi sub-district has prepared water for the barracks for distribution.
Watsan said the Red Cross team can provide 360.000 liters of water in 24 hours, and in the emergency response operation, the team provided 17 water storages of 5,000 liters each.(*)Editor: Jafar M Sidik
