Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - A total of 189 traffic accidents that occurred in East Kalimantan province last year killed 48 people and wounded 149 others, a police spokesman said.

Samarinda police`s spokesman Commissioner Handoko said here Sunday that those traffic accidents also caused material losses.

"The total worth of material losses is Rp427 million," he said.

However, compared to the number of traffic accidents which happened in 2009, the figure decreased from 254 to 189 cases (in 2010), he said.

In 2009, 67 people were killed, 154 were seriously wounded and 185 others sustained light injuries, Handoko said. (*)
