Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - Some 94 fishermen in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, had been hit by high and strong waves damaging and inundating their houses on Monday night at 8 pm.

The ill-fated fishermen sought refuge at local mosques and other safe places.
The head of the Mataram social and manpower agency H. Makmun said here Tuesday that the 94 houses were located in Bagik Kembar 52, Penghulu Agung 31, and in Kampung Bugis 14.

On Monday night he made an inspection of the location and provided relief assistance to the victims such as rice, instant noodle and mineral water.

Up to this morning, the waves were still high and rough, and not yet posing an immediate threat to the population and there was still no need to set up public kitchens.

It was also reported that four tons of rice have been stored as reserve at the Mataram Mayor`s office in anticipation of further natural disasters in the area.

"Relief aid including instant noodle, frying oil, blankets and clothes was ready for distribution," he said.

In the last few months weather had been very bad and rough over Mataram including floods and whirlwinds, he said. (*)
