Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Sultan Hamengkubuwono X has asked all elements in Yogyakarta`s community to maintain a conducive atmosphere in the region.

"I ask all parties not to conduct any terror act that could disrupt peace. I hope such an incident will not happen again," he said here on Friday in response to the throwing of a molotov cocktail at the house of Mulyadi, the chief of the association of village leaders of the region, recently.

The chief of the Yogyakarta sultanate who is also the governor of the region appealed to the people to be alert and careful as such an incident could also happen on others.

He said the incident was part of the risks of struggle for the maintenance of the current special system of appointment for filling the post of governor and vice governor of Yogyakarta.

The system makes the Sultan and the Pakualam automatically become governor and vice governor of Yogyakarta.

"I think in any struggle there will always be risks of a terror action to happen. All people who conduct a struggle like what Mulyadi is doing will always face such a risk," he said.

In view of that he said people who experienced such an incident should immediately report to the police. He said Mulyadi`s case had been handled by the police. He said however that the incident did not indicate increasing social vulnarabilities in the region.

"With the molotove bomb incident it does not mean that social vulnarability is increasing in the region. I hope the case could be handled well," he said.

The government has recently proposed changing the system to an election system like for other provinces in the country. The draft of the law for it has been submitted to the House of Representatives for discussion. (*)
