Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Setya Novanto, chairman of the Golkar Faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), said his faction had no intention to impeach the president and vice president.

"We have not yet issued any instruction for Golkar members to sign a proposal for the DPR to play its questioning rights but we do encourage the government to settle the Bank Century case immediately. It should not be like at present where no progress has been made," he said here on Friday.

Novanto made the remarks in response to a statement made by Golkar`s deputy treasurer Bambang Soesatyo regarding efforts to gain support for the use of DPR`s rights to express an opinion.

Novanto said that Golkar had never had grudge with Vice President Boediono and others. " I would like to stress that Golkar never had grudge towards Vice President Boediono. Golkar only wants to push ahead the settlement of the Bank Century scandal," he said.

Therefore, he said, Golkar has never had negative thinking about it.

Novanto, who is also Golkar`s general treasurer, said that Golkar has yet to discuss an follow up of a Constitutional Court ruling which could enable it to play its questioning right. The constitutional ruling lowered the quorum needed by legislators to play their rights to express an opinion.

Yet, the Golkar faction urged the government to settle the Bank Century case as soon as possible. For Golkar, the settlement of the Bank Century scandal cannot be bargained.(*)
