United Nations (ANTARA News/AFP) - The United Nations has sacked Moamer Kadhafi`s daughter as a goodwill ambassador because of the deadly strife in the nation, a spokesman said Wednesday.

Aisha Kadhafi was named a UN Development Program national goodwill ambassador in July 2009 to speak out on violence against women and HIV/AIDS in Libya, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said.

"Following the recent events UNDP has terminated the agreement with Ms Kadhafi based on article 30 of the UN guidelines for the designation of goodwill ambassadors and messengers of peace," Nesirky told a briefing.

He added that UNDP goodwill ambassadors do not get paid and do not hold UN travel documents.

Aisha Kadhafi is a law professor who was part of the defense team for late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein after his downfall. Her father has been widely criticized for a crackdown on democracy protesters in Libya. (*)
