Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Somali pirates hijacked a ship owned by PT Samudera Indonesia Tbk (SMOR) off Somalia`s coast while it was on its way from Pomalaa, South Sulawesi, to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the company`s management said here Friday.

The piracy of ferronickel cargo "ship Sinar Kudus" occurred on March 16 at 2.27 pm Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), the firm`s management said in an information openness.

All of the ship`s 20 Indonesian crew members were safe.

"The firm`s priority is the safety of the crew," the SMDR management said.

The impact of the hijacking on the firm`s operations and business survival was not yet known.

The Indonesian-flagged Sinar Kudus was carrying 8,300 tonnes of ferronickel from Indonesia to Rotterdam when it was hijacked, Iryanto Hutagaol, Samudera Indonesia`s corporate secretary, told Reuters.
