Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia beat Malaysia 3-1 and thereby won a gold medal in the men`s team badminton event of the 26th Southeast Asian Nations (SEA Games) on Tuesday.

The gold medal went to Indonesia after its pair Markis Kido/ Hendra Setiawan defeated Malaysian pair Mak Hee Chun/Ong Soon Hock 21-10, 21-14 in a 30-minute match.

Earlier, Indonesia`s men`s single players Simon Santoso and Tommy Sugiarto won respectively over Daren Liew 22-20, 21-12 and Mohammad Arif bin Abdul Latif 21-13, 21-17.

The only victory for the Malaysian team was made by Lim Khim Wah/Goh Wei Shem who beat Indonesian pair Bona Septano/Mohammad Ahsan 21-18, 15-21, 25-23.

The All Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI) has set a target of four gold medals and it relies on the team event for it besides on the men`s single, men`s double and mixed double events.

The individual events are scheduled to be held from Wednesday to Saturday offering five golds for grabs.(*)
