Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has urged the European Union and United States to lift economic sanctions on Myanmar because of the progress in its ongoing democratization process, an official said.

"We saw the by-elections in Myanmar on April 1 and believe the process of democratization in Myanmar has been effective," Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said here on Monday.

He also noted the progress in negotiations between the Myanmar government and rebels.

"Indonesia would continue its efforts to urge the European Union and United States to life their sanctions on Myanmar," he added.

Further, Marty said Indonesia will discuss the lifting of sanctions on Myanmar with Englands Prime Minister David Cameron when he visits Indonesia this month.

"President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is committed to take this problem up with England`s Prime Minister," he said.
