Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA News) - The Golkar Party will continue to support the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)-Boediono administration until 2014, its chairman, Aburizal Bakrie, said.

"Golkar will always support the current government until it serves out its term of office," he said after opening a working meeting of the party`s Lampung provincial branch on Friday.

There was no reason for Golkar not to support the government, he said.

Asked what he thought of the nomination of Golkar cadre for the next presidency, Ical, as the Golkar chief popularly known, said the party had yet to decide its stand.

Yet Golkar would nominate the best of its cadres for the post, he said.

"It is too far to talk about presidential election now," he said.

Commenting on a call for the House of Representatives (DPR) to use its right of inquiry to investigate tax mafia cases, he said Golkar threw its weight behind the call but these all were left to each Golkar cadre in the House to decide.

"Golkar fully supports the right of inquiry," he said.

Both Golkar Party and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) factions in the House remain adamant about supporting the right of inquiry. However, the Democratic Party has defended its decision to withdraw support from a proposed tax mafia inquiry, saying it could be used as a `political tool` to unseat the president.

Lawmaker Azis Sysmsuddin of the Golkar Party faction in the House expressed regret over the Democratic Party`s decision to withdraw its support.

"Even if members of the Democratic Party faction withdraw their support and members of other factions follow suit, members of the Golkar Party and PDI-P factions are enough to get the proposal for tax mafia inquiry approved," he said following a discussion at the parliament building recently. (*)
