KPK must reject any hearing with the House without Bibit and Chandra.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to reject any hearing with the House Commission III without involving KPK deputies Bibit Samat Rianto and Chandra Hamzah.

"KPK must reject any hearing with the House without Bibit and Chandra. KPK must be firm," ICW`s coordinator of legal division, Febri Diansyah, said here on Monday.

He said the argument used by the Legal Commission to reject Bibit and Chandra was funny. The attorney general`s office`s decision to set aside the legal case of Bibit and Chandra means that there is no longer a legal case involving them.

"If there is no longer a case it means there is no longer a suspect," he said.

ICW, Febri said, has even asked KPK to be consistent in carrying out the law enforcement considering that the leadership of the institution has now been full.

He said politicians who wished to fight anti-corruption efforts had to be fought. "The people will support KPK," he said.

He said ICW saw the Commission III`s rejection of the presence of Bibit and Chandra in the hearing was reflecting the commission`s resistance towards the KPK`s recent move to arrest 19 of their colleagues in connection with their alleged involvement in a corruption case.

"So it is reasonable if we then ask whether the House of Representatives members are defending corruptors," he said.

Commission III in a closed door meeting with the KPK after suspending the hearing decided to reject the presence of Bibit and Chandra in any hearing with the commission in view of the decision of the attorney general`s office to set aside their alleged bribery case.(*)
