Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The South Sumatra provincial administration has contributed 150 million trees for the government`s one-billion tree planting program.

The 150 million trees had been planted through a regreening program, said South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin in a seminar on the Green Gross Domestic Product (Green PDRB) organized by PT Sinarmas Forestry here Tuesday.

At the end of this year, the province hoped to contribute a total of 200 million trees.

The PDRB green economic seminar initiated by PT Sinarmas Forestry is very useful for South Sumatra and could help support the development in the province, according to him.

The seminar was participated in by 80 participants from private and state universities, said ERD Coord South Sumatra Sinarmas Forestry Vice President Eddy Makhmud.

A number of regional administrations` officials including those from East Kalimantan also took part in the meeting.

The Sinarmas Group has six companies in South Sumatra, namely in Ogan Komering Ilir, Musi Banyuasin, and Banyuasin Districts.

On the occasion, Sinarmas Forestry companies and the University of Sriwijaya, SPP Sembawa and SMKN 1 Gelumbang signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
