Kendari (ANTARA News) - A woman - panicked by an earthquake - jumped from the third story of a building here Monday morning but was found alive with only a spinal injury.

Fai, 24 years old, survived the jump with a broken spinal bone, and now she is under intensive medical treatment at Ismoyo Hospital Korem 143 Haluoleo.

"I warned her not to jump because the third floor was 12 meters from the ground, but she panicked and jumped out through a window," said Fai`s co-worker, Sia, here Monday.

Fai landed on the canopy of a ground floor garage which was why she only sustained a spinal injury.

Kendari was hit by a magnitude 6.0 earthquake at 06.07 am local time followed by several aftershocks that caused great panic among the city`s residents, They all stopped whatever they were doing and scrambled to head home to meet their families.

Several minutes later there were rumors of bigger aftershocks that could trigger a tsunami at 10.00 am while the water level at Kendari beach was rising causing people to flee to higher ground for safety and all businesses in the city to shut down.

But Local climatology and geophysics agency coordinator Adi Setiadi asked Kendari residents not to panic by the rumors.

"Please do not believe the misleading rumors on aftershocks that can trigger tsunami," Adi said.

The quake`s epicenter was at 4.40 degrees southern latitude and 122.82 degrees eastern longitude and a depth of 18 kilometers.

The location of the epicenter was also 55 kilometers southeast of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, 120 kilometers northeast of Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, and 265 kilometers southeast of Soroako, South Sulawesi, and 312 kilometers southeast of Sengkang, South Sulawesi.

Aftershocks occurred with a strength of 5.2 on the Richter Scale (SR) Monday morning in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.

According to the local Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake occurred at 6.25 pm.

The quake`s epicenter was at 11.4 degrees southern latitude and 122.61 degrees eastern longitude and a depth of 20 kilometers.

The location of the epicenter was 16 kilometers southeast of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, 150 kilometers northeast of Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, 226 kilometers southeast of Soroako, South Sulawesi, and 287 kilometers southeast of Singkang, South Sulawesi.

Coordinator of the Southeast Sulawesi BMKG Adi Setiadi said the second quake did not have the potential of triggering a tsunami.
