Islamabad (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - At least two persons were killed and six others were wounded in an explosion in northwest Pakistan`s Kurram tribal region on Saturday, local media reported.

The explosion occurred when a passenger vehicle, traveling from central to lower Kurram, struck a landmine in the Ladha area, reported TV channel Dawn News quoting hospital sources.

The vehicle was destroyed in the explosion which led to the deaths of two persons. Six others were also wounded.

In another incident in central Kurram, armed men abducted eight people along with their three vehicles.

Kurram area often remains under the effects of militancy. Sectarian violence between two Muslim groups, Shia and Sunni, in the area is also a main reason behind many incidents of extremism in the area.
