Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police believe Pepi, the alleged mastermind of book bombings and planned bombing in Serpong, received funds from a financier to fund his activities.

"We have strong clues that there was another person who had acted as a financier to support Pepi Fernando`s terrorist activities," the National Police Headquarters` public information officer, Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar said here on Monday.

He said the police would not stop at what Pepi had said that his was a new terrorist cell.

"We believe someone is acting as Pepi`s superior. We are still investigating it. We need time to complete it," he said.

Boy said Pepu had not been open about his activities so far including the bombing targets which are now still being investigated.

Seventeen suspects have so far been detained for allegedly being connected with the cell. They are Pepi Fernando, Deni, Hendu Suhartono alias Zokaw, Febri Hermawan, Mugianto, Ade Guntur, Darto, Irman Kamaludin, Muhammad Maulana Sani, Fajar Dwi Setyo, Wartono alias Tono, Juni Kurniawan, Riki Riyanto alias Ibenk, Mochamad Syarif, Muhammad Fadil, Imam Mochammad Firdaus and Matun Maulana.

Police suspected that Pepi was the mastermind of the bomb terror in Summarecom Gading Serpong, Tangeran, Banten, recently.

Police arrested him in Aceh on April 21 and 17 others afterwards in different locations.

The police anti-terror unit discovered explosive materials, when they searched Pepi`s house in Harapan Indah, Bekasi, West Java, on April 23.

Boy said the police had also confiscated a hand grenade, bomb casings, a ready-to-use can bomb and also explosive mixtures among the materials as evidence.

National police deputy chief Commissioner General Nanan Soekarna meanwhile expressed hope on Monday that the US government`s announcement about the death of Osama bin Laden that day would lead to the eradication of terrorism in the country.

"We hope so. So that there will be no terrorism again," he said after attending a meeting at the State Secretariat.

Nanan also hoped the news would also improve security in the world.

He asked all people who are linked to terrorist networks to stop their actions and give themselves in. "They should have all been caught. So please just surrender," he said.

Nanan said however that the police remained alert and would continue to taking preventive and anticipatory measures against any kind of security threats especially terrorism.
