Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva arrived in Jakarta on Friday night to attend the 18th ASEAN Summit on May 7-8.

Vejjajiva arrived at the Soekarno Hatta Airport on Friday at 10.40 p.m. or one hour behind schedule. He was the last ASEAN leader to arrive in Jakarta for the summit.

Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik greeted the Thai premier upon arrival at the airport. Vejjajiva and entourage later went straight to the hotel where they will be staying during the summit.

President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono will officially open the summit on Saturday. During the summit the ASEAN leaders will also hold informal meetings with ASEAN civil society, ASEAN youth organization and ASEAN parliament.

On Saturday night, President Yudhoyono is scheduled to hold a state banquet in honor of the ASEAN leaders and representatives of ASEAN member states.(*)
