Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received leaders of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) at his office here Friday.

Headed by Komnas HAM Chairman Ifshal Kasim, the Komnas HAM delegation was received by the head of state at around 10 am local time.

In his opening rem`arks, President Yudhoyono expressed gratitude to Komnas HAM for helping promote the enforcement of human rights in Indonesia.

Recommendations submitted by Komnas HAM, have been helpful for the government in protecting the people`s human rights, according the the president.

"I have monitored and received reports from ministers and special staff in the legal and human rights field on what Komnas HAM have done and recommended throughout Indonesia to promote and protect the human rights of our fellow citizens," he said.

He admitted that there were still problems concerning the implementation of human rights in this country, but at the same time there have been substantial progresses in the human rights field, compared to several years ago.

"Compared to 10-15 years ago, the face of our human rights has significantly changed. Let maintain it, and we improve it by making some corrections," he said. (*)
