Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of State Enterprises (BUMN) has rejected a resignation request from the vice president of state-owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Adhy Gunawan.

"We have summoned him and rejected his request to resign ," State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said here on Friday.

Adhy Gunawan had tendered his resignation to the BUMN minister in the latter`s capacity as representatives of Marpati`s main shareholder.

Adhy resignation request coincided with the dismissal of two members of the Marpati Workers` Union, namely Purwanto and Idra Topan.

"We have summoned him for a dialog and asked about his reasons for wanting to resign," the minister said.

The minister said Adhy had asked for permission to resign because he wanted to pursue a career outside Merpati.

"But we rejected his request because Merpati still needs his expertise to improve the airline`s performance," he said.

He said that as of Friday, Adhy was expected to return to his office.(*)
