Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - A Bell-412 helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Armed Forces, reportedly made an emergency landing in Kenyam sub district, Nduga District, Papua Province, Monday.

The helicopter, operated by The Cendrawasih Regional Military Command (Kodam) XVII , developed engine trouble and had to land at an unscheduled spot in Kenyam sub district at around 10.58 am local time, according to information obtained by ANTARA News correspondent in Jayapura on Monday.

The helicopter with flight number H-5105 and flying took off from Timika to Kenyam at 9.31 am local time.

Kodam XVII Cenderawasih Spokesman Lt. Col. Ali Hamdan Bogra, in response to press questions, said he still waited for detailed information from Timika on the incident.

Meanwhile, a Merpati Airlines` MA-60 turbo-prop aircraft had crashed into Kaimana district, West Papua province, on May 7, killed 27 people on aboard, including its pilots and co-pilots.

"The plane crashed as it was trying to make an emergency landing due to bad weather," Head of Public Communication Center of the Ministry of Transportation Bambang S Ervanm said in Jakarta, recently.

He said the ill-fated airplane was flying the Sorong-Kaimana route, carrying 18 passengers, two children and one infant. It also flew with two pilots, two co-pilots and two technicians on board.

"The plane was trying to make an emergency landing as it was experiencing bad whether," Bambang said.

The MA-60 aircraft which was flying from Sorong to Kaimana, West Papua, crashed about 400 meters away from Kaimana airport. (f001/a/HAJM)
