Jakarta (ANTARA News) - China wants its defense cooperation with Indonesia to expand and be pragmatic, vice presidential special aide for foreign relations said.

Dewi Fortuna Anwar, the vice president`s special adviser on foreign affairs f, said Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie conveyed the wish at a meeting with Vice President Boediono here on Friday.

"Chinese Defense Minister Liang Gunalie reiterated China wished to develop pragmatic and wider cooperation with Indonesia including in the field of defense," she said.

Dewi said the strategic partnership agreements including the one in the field of defense between Indonesia and China signed in 2005 needed to be deepened according to Minister Liang Guanglie.

She said r Guanglie also expressed hope for increased exchange of officers including exchange of visits by defense attaches, other officers and warships.

The Chinese minister also expressed thes wish for increased cooperation in the field of defense industries.

In the meeting with the vice president Minister Liang Guanglie thanked t Boediono for having received him.

He also thanked Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro for having invited him to Indonesia to participate in an informal meeting with ASEAN ministers of defense.

Dewi said Vice President Boediono meanwhile had expressed support and hope for increased cooperation in the field of defense between the two countries.

She said Boediono also expressed hope for increased mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of defense between the two countries to boost the two countries` security and welfare. (*)
