Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The latest of the Opera State of the Mobile Web said that Indonesia and the Philippines were on the top position in their participation in social networks.

More than 77 pct of of users of web cell phones in the two countries visited Facebook and spent a great deal of their time socializing with on-line friends, Co-founder of Opera Software Jon von Tetzchner said in his press release here on Thursday.

Jon von Tetzchner said Opera Software itself has more than 400,000 fans in Facebook which is growing rapidly as an important channel of communication with its users.

The social component dominates the habit of browsing the web of 20 top cell phone web browsing countries, he said.

He added that the social network has become the main reason in the web of cell phones and in each different area has its own favorite site. The western world loves Facebooks.

A mini Opera Browser for instance he said continued to develop throughout the world. In April 2011, a mini Opera Browser has more than 107.1 million users, an increase of 4.6 pct from March 2011. This places a mini Opera browser as the most popular cell phone browser in the world.

Each report of the State of Mobile Web is focused on a certain area to analyze a local trend. This time it is focused on Russia and CIS countries.

The 10 countries which are the most frequent users of Mini Opera browser in CIS area are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

From April 2010 to April 2011 the page visits in the 10 CIS countries reached 198 pct, the number of unique users increased 65 pct and the transferred data increased by 176 pct.

Facebook is very popular in Indonesia, both in terms of the users 77 pct of the the number of Mini Opera from Indonesia used it for access to Facebook in April.

Opera Software ASA has changed the meaning of web browsing for PCs, cell phones and other tools linked to the network. (*)
