Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting will be held in Surabaya, East Java Province, on June 7-11, 2011, prior to the 44th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and the 18th ASEAN Regional Forum.

The Surabaya meeting will also include the 2nd Meeting of the Working Group of the Executive Committee of the SEANWFZ, the ASEAN Regional Forum Defense Officials` Dialog (10 countries), the Ad Hoc East Asia Summit (EAS) Senior Officials` Consultation (18 countries) and the ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Officials` Meeting - ARF SOM (27 countries), the foreign ministry said in a statement here Thursday.

Other related meetings will include the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Senior Officials` Meetings and the Mekong-Japan Senor Officials` Meeting.

Indonesia has been appointed chairman of the session of the Commission for Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) in 2011.

Indonesia was appointed to the post at a meeting of SEANWFZ Commission held as part of ASEAN ministerial meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam, also attended by Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto.

The SEANWFZ treaty, signed by all ASEAN members in 1995 and coming into force in 1997, expresses the region`s desire to contribute towards general and complete nuclear disarmament and the promotion of international peace and security.

As the current ASEAN Chair, Indonesia plans to hold the 19th ASEAN Summit and the Sixth East Asia Summit (EAS) in Bali in October this year.

The 18th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings was organized in Jakarta, from May 4 to 8, 2011. The Summit was held on May 7-8 and preceded by ASEAN-EU Business Summit and AEM-EU Trade Commissioner Meeting on May 5, 2011 and APSC Council, AEC Council, ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) and 8th Meeting of ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) on May 6.

During the Summit, several meetings also took place, namely ASEAN Leaders Meeting with APA Representatives, ASEAN Leaders Informal Meeting with Youth Representatives and Leaders Informal Meeting with CSO?s Representatives and BIMP-EAGA Summit.
