Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed appreciation to teachers and educators who conduct early environment education to students starting from the primary schools to the senior high schools.

The president made the remark at the commemoration of the world environment day at the state place here on Tuesday.

"Those who understand at the most about education are to provide knowledge on the golden era namely at the first 12 years of studying, because we can conduct attitude and behavior building on someone," the president said.

"We should continue encouraging the teachers and educators to carry out the environment education so that such effort can make more Indonesian children recognize the importance of preserving the environment from an early age," Yudhoyono said.

On the occasion, several schools received environmental awards like some state primary schools (SDN) namely the SDN-12 Benhil Bendungan Hilir Jakarta, SDN-9 Bantarjati Bogor West Java, SDN 4 Metro Lampung (Sumatra), SDN Kandangan III Surabaya (East Java), SDN 001 Lima Puluh Pekanbaru, Riau (Sumatra), SDN Dinoyo III Malang, East Java) and SDN 005 Bukit Raya Pekanbaru Riau (Sumatra).

The Junior high schools (SMP) which got awards namely the SMPN-2 Kebomas Gresik and SMPN 1 Merakurak Tuban (both in East Java), SMPN 10 Sukabumi West Java, SMPN 10 Samarinda East Kalimantan, SMPN-1 Cigombong Sukabumi West Java, SMP Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta dan SMPN 1 Balikpapan East Kalimantan.

In addition, several senior high schools (SMA) which received awards were the SMA-10 Malang, SMKN-1 Probolinggo Jatim, SMAN-1 Wringinanom Gresik, SMAN 5 Jember, SMAN 1 Geger Madiun (all in East Java), SMAN-2 Wonosari Yogyakarta and SMAN-1 Bandar Bener Meuriah. (*)
