Priyo, who is also a House Deputy Speaker, said the Indonesian government under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should renegotiate the work contract with foreign firms operating in Indonesia`s mining sector.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Golkar Party Associate Chairman Priyo Budi Santoso said his party had urged the government to renegotiate soon all mining work contracts with foreign companies which are considered disadvantageous to the state.

"We support the calls for the government to renegotiate the work contracts immediately, particularly those which disadvantage the nation," he said here on Friday.

Priyo, who is also a House Deputy Speaker, said the Indonesian government under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should renegotiate the work contract with foreign firms operating in Indonesia`s mining sector.

Earlier, during the observation of Bung Karno`s June 1 Address, former president BJ Habibie had said the mining contracts with foreign companies were a new form of the economic exploitation practiced by the VOC (United East Indies Company) in the past.

Habibie`s evaluation was responded to positively by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

In his address at the event, Yudhoyono shared Habibie`s view and called for efforts to return the national resources to the nation.

"I agree. We will conclude new and more equitable contracts. Let`s change this so that this economic exploitation will no longer happen in the future," the president said.(*)
