Medan, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The number of houses damaged by a 5.5-magnitude quake which struck North Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, on Tuesday has increased from 376 to 864.

North Tapanuli administration spokesman Jahormat Lumbangaol said here Thursday night the number is still increasing.

"Officials continued counting the houses hit and damaged by the quake, including those located in far away and remote places," Lumbangaol said.

He said the areas with the greatest number of damaged houses included Nahornop Marsada, Pahae Jae, Taput 76 kilometers west of Tarutung, or 365 Km south of Medan.

"Up to the third day (Thursday) relief aid included noodle, frying oil, rice, sugar and cash continued coming for the quake victims," Lumbangaol said.
