Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Seventy eight paragliders from home and abroad will compete in the Indonesia Open opened here on Saturday.

Foreign athletes taking part in the event come from Japan, Russia, South Korean, Switzerland, the Philippines and Malaysia, organizing committee chief Iskandar Nontji said.

The competition as well as national championship opened by governor Longky Djanggola would be started on Sunday and would last until June 25.

The event is held in Wayu village (the Matantimali hills) around 30 kilometers from Palu, the Central Sulawesi provincial capital.

The location is very strategic and challenging standing at 800 meter above the sea level.

Governor Djanggola said this was the first Indonesia Open held in the region. Indonesia Open is one of the world championship series. (*)
