Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - A Malaysian national, Leem Tian Soon (27) was sentenced to five years in jail here on Thursday for illegally possessing drugs.

"The defendant is proven guilty of possessing, keeping or controlling non-plant category one heroin weighing 2.2 grams, violating Article 112 clause 1 of Indonesian Law Number 35 of 2009 on narcotics," chief judge Jhon Tony Hutauruk said when reading the verdict at the Denpasar District Court.

Based on that he said Leem Tian Soon was sentenced to five years minus time he has served in detention.

The court also fined him Rp800 million or six months more in jail for failing to pay it.

The sentence matched with the demand of the prosecutor, Ni Wayan Yusmawati.

The judges considered Tian Soon`s act as running against the government`s anti-narcotic programs.

Tian Soon and his lawyer Teddy Raharja accepted the verdict.

Leem Tian Soon was caught by police on November 7, 2010 on Kuta Square at around 9.30pm, following information from community members.

He was caught when he was walking in front of the hotel where he stayed. Upon search police discovered a cigarette packet containing 0.06 gram methamphetamine put in a plastic bag.

From the right pocket of his trousers police discovered two plastic bags one containing 2.07 grams of methamphetamine and the other one 0.01 gram of heroin.
