Speaking on the occasion of the delivery of the four mobile harbor cranes, five ship-to-shore container cranes, five rubber tire cranes, 35 container trucks and buses and one tug boat, PT. Pelindo I president director Harry Susanto said in Belawan port, Medan, on Friday the four mobile harbor cranes would be operated in Belawan port in North Sumatra and Dumai port in Riau.
The use of the cranes would help expedite the loading and unloading of cargoes, thus improving the harbor`s performance in the handling of their work at seaport, he said.
According to him, the total value of investment for the procurement of those port facilities was estimated to stand at Rp1.9 trillion, namely four folds if compared to last year`s. The money for the investment was obtained from the bank.
"In fact, the bank is available to provide more Rp2 trillion. The bank really gave its full trust on the performance and prospect of PT.Pelindo I, thus enabling our company to add the port facilities for the load and unloading activity," he said.
Target to be achieved in procuring the port facilities like cranes, trucks, and tugboats was certainly to improve our loading and unloading services to customers, he said.
To speed up the performance, PT.Pelindo was reported to improve their human resources with the operation of new equipments like cranes, tuckboat and trucks and at present around 143 labors were employed as operators and some of them were sent abroad to broaden their knowledge on the operation and repair of the port facilities.
The workers have to be provided with such kind of training before being trusted to handle the field work, Harry said.
In the meantime, Ramses P. Napitupulu, the president director of PT. Dwisaka Mas Indah, the Indonesian partner of German company, said these cranes could be operated in international seaports, as they weere equipped with rubber tire wheels, thus making them easier to move to a designated harbor.
In fact, this kind of harbor mobile cranes could even be operated in a bigger barge to load and unload containers or other goods from a ship to trucks at the traditional seaport and vise versa, he said.
"There are two types of harbor mobile cranes handed over to PT. Pelindo I today. One is HMC 400 and another is HMC 400L," Ramses said, adding that such a good cooperation with Pelindo I will continue in the form of other projects.
