Sana'a (ANTARA News/Saba) - US Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman said on Thursday that his country encourages Yemen's political parties to address the country`s multiple challenges via dialogue.

In a press conference held at the US Embassy in Sana'a, Feltman said that Yemen faces serious and multiple challenges.

The US official made it clear that the Gulf Cooperation Council was concerned about the situation in Yemen, denied that his country had written the terms of the GCC initiative aimed to end the crisis in Yemen.

Highlighting his meetings with Vice President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi, Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, government, opposition and economic leaders, representatives of civil society organizations and young people and several diplomats, Feltman said that they aimed to talk on current developments in the country and discuss steps that can be taken to find a solution that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

He called on all Yemeni parties to participate in a peaceful dialogue, reiterating his country's support to the GCC initiative.

The US official also asserted that the United States encourages all parties to move quickly toward dialogue in order to enable the Yemeni people to promote security and unity, pointing to the US coordination and consultation with friends and partners, including the GCC, on Yemen are underway.

Feltman affirmed that a swift transfer of power will put Yemen on better road to progress and prosperity.

In the framework of joint cooperation between the two countries, Feltman stressed that progress in Yemen through an orderly and peaceful transfer of power would encourage the United States to go on and strengthen its cooperation and partnership with the government and people of Yemen in order to achieve further prosperity and progress.
