"Oda Lehmann and David Martel Pintado visited Indonesia on April 16-22, 2011 to discuss the technical preparations for the meeting with the organizing committee in Indonesia," Wardiyatmo, the tourism and cultural ministry`s Secretary General said here Tuesday.
It would be for the first time for Indonesia to host the 6th Session of The Intergovernmental Committee for The Safeguarding of The Intangible Cultural Heritage (6 COM), he said.
The Indonesian government would make optimum preparation for the meeting, which is quite a rare opportunity, according to the official.
The decision to select Indonesia to be the host of the UNESCO meeting had been made in the Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2010.
The next meeting will be held at Nusa Dua, Bali, in November 2011. Delegations from 134 countries, cultureal experts, and representatives of international organizations and NGOs will attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Government has registered three Intangible Cultural Heritage sites, namely: Balinese Traditional Dance, Noken Papua Handicraft, and the Best Practices of the Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII) at the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) this year.
The nomination was announced by Coordinating Minister of People?s Welfare of Indonesia, Agung Laksono at the Signing of the Intangible Cultural Heritages Proposal to the UNESCO at his office early this year.
To date, five intangible cultural heritage sites from Indonesia have been recognized by the UNESCO as the World Intangible Cultural Heritages, namely: Wayang (Indonesian Puppet), Keris (Indonesian ceremonial sword), Batik, and the Best Practices of Batik and Angklung.
At the Bali meeting, the Saman Dance from Aceh is expected to be announced by UNESCO as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage which needs urgent protection and preservation.
