Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Police Chief General Timor Pradopo said his side would monitor alleged fund flow from Nazaruddin to former police chief investigator Commissioner General Ito Sumardi.

"We will of course monitor it," the Police Chief said after attending the transfer of post from outgoing Army chief Gen George Toisutta to his successor Lt Gen Pramono Edhie Wibowo here on Thursday.

On the possibility of police to carry out internal investigation of its officers allegedly receiving bribes from former Democrat Party (PD) treasurer M Nazaruddin, Timor said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had informed that there was no a fund flow into the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) from the secretary (a corruption suspect) of the minister for sports and youth affairs.

"KPK has told us that there was no flow of funds. We have to believe it. If there is no flow of funds how could we conduct an investigation. But we will of course carry out monitoring," he said.

The KPK found written documents when it was searching for the office of Nazaruddin in South Jakarta. In the document, there was a name of a high ranking police officer with the initial "IS" who was believed to have received US$50,000 from Nazaruddin. It was suspected that the money was provided to help secure a legal process in a corruption case in the ministry of health.

Apart from that there was also evidence that the head of Unit IV of the Corruption Crime Directorate of the Police Headquarters, Senior Commissioner Jacobs Alexander Timisela had received US$30,000 from Nazaruddin.

The KPK also found two receipts which contained two disbursements respectively worth US$25,000 and US$70,000 for a recipient written as the "Bareskrim".

The disbursements mentioned above were done early in 2011 before the bribery case of the construction of an athlete house in Palembang, South Sumatra, was uncovered.

The alleged bribery case in the construction of the athlete facilities involved Nazaruddin, former treasurer of the Democratic Party (PD). (*)
